I love these thoughts so much, especially the part about Adam Mosseri basically acting shocked about the “social” part of social media people are looking for right now. I have a book club and we talk to each other on Geneva, which I picked because it’s like a group chat where you can very quickly throw up a poll (like about what book to read next, or when to meet) and you can have separate threads for separate thoughts, like books we’re interested in, scheduling/logistics, etc. My book club is literally (mostly) people I met via Instagram. How is it possible that with all the brain power at Instagram, they haven’t thought of this yet? Do none of them have any group chats? Has it never occurred to any of them to create more robust chat features for small groups?! Feels like that’s all we really want to do these days, rather than howl into the void…
